Translate Lesson Content Using AI
The Translations screen puts English beside your target language field by field, and a Translate button on every field generates the translation with AI, marked with an asterisk until a person reviews it.
How does AI translation work in Skyllful?
Translation happens on the Translations screen, where the English text sits on the left and your target language sits on the right. Every field on the right has its own Translate button, and that button is the AI. Click it and Skyllful fills the field in about a second.
The AI is the starting point, not the finish line. Every result arrives marked, and a person confirms it before it reaches a learner.
Note: A language has to be turned on for the Learning Program before any of this appears. Languages are enabled in Learning Program Settings, on the Language Settings tab.
How do you open the Translations screen?
Step |
Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Open the language dropdown in the top bar of Skyllful Studio. |
| 2 | Choose Review. The Translations screen opens. |
Note: There is a second way in. While any content is untranslated, a Missing Translations indicator sits in the top bar with a Fix link beside it, and Fix opens the same screen.
What is on the Translations screen?
Control |
What it does |
|---|---|
| Language | Chooses the target language. Only languages enabled for the Learning Program appear. |
| Learning Element | Chooses what you are translating: Learning Program, Assignments, Courses, Modules, or Lessons. |
| Select Lesson | Appears when Learning Element is set to Lessons. Opens a Course, Module, and Lesson tree so you can pick the Lesson to work on. |
| Element Status, Filter By | Narrows the list to All, Missing Translations, or Unreviewed. |
| Element Title | Searches by title, with clear to reset. |
| The two columns | English on the left, read only. Your target language on the right, editable. |
| Update | Saves your work. It stays greyed until something changes. |
How do you translate a field?
Step |
Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Choose the target language from Language. |
| 2 | Choose what you are translating from Learning Element. |
| 3 | For a Lesson, click Select Lesson, then expand the Course and Module and choose the Lesson. |
| 4 | Find the field you want. The English original sits beside it on the left. |
| 5 | Click the Translate button between the two fields. It is a small square holding the character 文. Skyllful fills the target field in about a second. |
| 6 | Read the result, and edit it directly if the wording or the tone needs work. |
| 7 | Click Update to save. |
Note: Fields can also be typed rather than generated. If you have a human translation already, put it straight into the target field and click Update. The Translate button is a shortcut, not a requirement.
What does the asterisk mean?
An asterisk at the front of a translation means the text came from the AI and no person has confirmed it yet. A Lesson Title translated by AI reads *Transferir una operación rather than Transferir una operación.
Step |
Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Set Element Status, Filter By to Unreviewed to see only the translations still carrying an asterisk. |
| 2 | Read each one against the English beside it. |
| 3 | Correct the wording if it needs correcting. |
| 4 | Delete the asterisk to mark the field as reviewed. |
| 5 | Click Update. |
This is the quality control loop. The asterisk is how your team tells machine output from confirmed work, so a translation is not finished until someone has removed it deliberately.
Which parts of a Lesson can you translate?
With Learning Element set to Lessons and a Lesson selected, the screen lists every piece of text in it.
Level |
Fields |
|---|---|
| Lesson | Lesson Title and Lesson Description. |
| Each mode | Title Override, Description Override, Mode Name Override, and Skills Covered, for Talkthrough, Walkthrough, Practice, Knowledge Check, and Video. |
| Quick Reference Guide | Title Override, Description Override, Intro or Disclaimer, and Conclusion. |
| Each step | Step Title and Step Description, plus the Walkthrough prompt text and the Practice hint for each element on the screen. |
| Quick Reference Guide steps | Step Name Override, Screen Description, and Step Description Override. |
| Video | VO Instructions, VO Script, and VO Phonetics. |
Note: Titles can also be translated in batches from outside this screen. A Course or Module Actions menu holds a Translate option that handles the Course title or all of its Module titles at once. Lesson content itself is translated here, field by field.
What if you leave without saving?
Changing the Learning Element, or closing the screen, with unsaved work raises an Unsaved Changes! prompt asking whether to save before closing, with Cancel, Don't Save, and Save. Cancel returns you to your work.
Why does text appear blank instead of in English?
Because a translation is missing. Skyllful does not substitute English into an untranslated field, so switching Studio to a language where the work is unfinished shows empty titles and empty descriptions rather than the English text. It looks like data loss and it is not. Set Element Status, Filter By to Missing Translations to find what is still open.
Images, videos, and thumbnails are separate from text. Where one is missing for a language, the Translations screen shows a Missing Non Text Asset warning on that row with a Fix link, which opens the Lesson Builder in that language so you can supply it.
Best practice: Before you release a language, preview each Assignment and everything in it in Skyllful Simulator, in that language. The Translations screen tells you what is missing from its own list of fields. Simulator shows you what a learner actually sees, which is where a missing screen, an English image, or a prompt nobody translated turns up. Walk every mode in the Assignment, not only the first one, since prompts and hints are translated per mode.
Frequently asked questions
Does Skyllful translate a whole Lesson in one click?
No. Each field has its own Translate button, so a Lesson is translated field by field. Course titles and Module titles are the exception, and those can be done in batches from the Actions menu.
Does the AI translation reach learners before anyone reviews it?
Once you click Update it is saved, asterisk included, so it can reach a learner in that language. Treat Unreviewed as a queue to clear before the content is published rather than a soft warning.
Can you edit an AI translation?
Yes. Type over it in the target field, then delete the asterisk and click Update.
Does translating change the English version?
No. English is read only on this screen. Translations are stored per language alongside it.
Why is a field missing from the list?
The list follows the Lesson. A mode that is not in use, or a step with no prompt text, contributes no fields. Check that the right Lesson is selected and that Element Status is set to All.
Where can you get help?
If you need help, start with your manager, then your Local Administrator. If additional assistance is needed, your Local Administrator can submit a support ticket to Skyllful.
