Read the Step-by-Step Grid
The step-by-step grid is the main part of the Lessons Dashboard. Each Lesson is a row and each step is a column, so you can read across to find exactly where Learners are making incorrect actions.
What is the step-by-step grid?
The grid is the main part of the Lessons Dashboard. Each row is a Lesson and each column reflects Learner performance at a step, so you can scan across a Lesson to find its trouble spots.

What is in the Lesson Name column?
Each row begins with the Lesson title followed by its Module. A three-dot menu on the row gives you Edit (open the Lesson directly) and Preview (view it from the Learner's perspective).
How do you read Total Incorrect and Total Attempts?
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Total Incorrect | The count of incorrect actions across all steps in the Lesson. |
| Total Attempts | The total number of Lesson attempts by Learners. |
Read these two together. A high Total Incorrect on a Lesson with very high Total Attempts may simply reflect volume, while a high count on a low-attempt Lesson points to a real content problem.
What do the step columns show?
Each step column shows either a percentage or a count of incorrect actions, depending on your view setting.
- A colored cell indicates recorded tap data, with severity shown by color.
- 0 Actions appears when no incorrect taps were recorded at that step.
- -- indicates the step does not exist in that Lesson.
How do you sort the grid?
Select any column header to sort by that metric. Select it a second time to reverse the order.
How do you use this data?
Identify high-error Lessons using Total Incorrect, then look across their step columns. Investigate red cells first by opening the Heatmap Viewer.
