Get to Know Skyllful Simulator

Skyllful Simulator is the mobile app where your training lives, and this article is the tour: what it is for, how to get it on your phone, what every tab and button on the main screen does, and what happens when you open your first Lesson.

Why does your training live in an app?

Because the work does. You are not going to learn a scanner workflow from a slide deck at a desk, and you are not going to sit through an hour of anything between stops.

Skyllful Simulator puts the training on the device you already carry, in short Lessons you can finish in the gaps of a normal day. What you practice in it is a realistic copy of the actual app you use on the job, so the steps you learn are the steps you take tomorrow. Learning in small pieces, on the real thing, is also how it sticks.

Video: A short tour of Skyllful Simulator: what it is, what you use it for, and how to move around it.

Everything in the video is written out below, so you can read it instead or come back to it later.

Where do you use Skyllful Simulator?

On the device you carry. Skyllful Simulator is a mobile app, installed on your phone or tablet, and that is where your training is meant to be done. Install it from your organization's app store or from the link they send you, then sign in with the credentials they gave you. If you cannot get in, your manager is the first person to ask.

The same training can also be opened in a web browser, and some organizations use it that way for desk work or for a quick look on a laptop.

Note: One thing only the app can do is work offline. Downloading your assigned content ahead of time, and completing it with no signal, is an app feature. A browser cannot do it. If any part of your job takes you where the connection drops, use the app.

What do you see when you open it?

The main screen has three parts, and you will use all of them.

Across the top sit three tabs. In the middle is the list of what has been given to you, one card per item. At the bottom sit three buttons: Logout, Settings, and History. A search control sits at the top of the screen.

What are the three tabs?

Tab
What it holds
Assignments Your training. This is where you spend your time and where you complete your Lessons.
Reference Material set aside for you to look things up in. It is not graded and you are not expected to work through it.
Messages Messages from your managers and administrators, newest first.

Note: An empty tab tells you so plainly. Reference reads "You do not have any reference materials assigned" and Messages reads "You do not have any messages." Neither is an error.

What does an Assignment card tell you?

Each Assignment on the Assignments tab is a card, and the card is a status report you can read at a glance.

On the card
What it means
Thumbnail The picture your organization chose for this Assignment. It is how you tell your Assignments apart in the list.
Title The name of the Assignment.
Lessons Remaining How many Lessons you still have to complete in it.
Time Remaining Roughly how long the rest of it will take you.

A progress bar sits under each of the two numbers, so you can see how far through you are without doing the arithmetic.

Note: If someone has told you about training you cannot find, it is usually one of two things: the Assignment has not started yet, or the content has not been published. Neither is something you can fix from your side. Ask your manager.

What do the three buttons do?

Button
What it does
Logout Ends your session and returns you to the sign-in screen.
Settings Opens your app settings, including the language Skyllful Simulator is displayed in.
History Opens the record of the training you have already completed.

How do you change the language?

Open Settings. Under Language, the app lists the languages your organization has turned on, with a checkmark against the one you are using. Choose another and the app switches to it. You do not leave Skyllful Simulator to do this.

How do you find something quickly?

Tap the search control at the top of the screen and type what you are looking for. Searching covers your Assignments and your reference material.

Under the search box, Your searched topics keeps the searches you have run before, so a term you use often is one tap away rather than something you retype. Before you have searched for anything it reads "No previous searches."

What happens when you open a Lesson?

Opening a Lesson does not start it. It opens a start screen first, which tells you what you are about to do: the Lesson number and name, how long it should take, and a short description of what you will be able to do afterwards.

Underneath sits one icon per mode the Lesson offers, such as Walkthrough or Knowledge Check, with the name of each written under its icon. A mode is a way of working through the same task: guided, on your own, or checked. Begin Learning starts the one you have chosen.

FAQ

Do I need an internet connection? Not always. In the app you can download your assigned content while you have a connection and then complete it with no signal at all. In a browser you cannot, so a browser needs you to stay online.

Why does it look different on my tablet? Skyllful Simulator is built for phones first. On a tablet or in a browser the same screens have more room, so the layout spreads out. The tabs, the buttons and the content are the same.

Where is the training I already finished? Tap History. It lists what you have completed, most recent first.

Do I have to finish an Assignment in one go? No. Your progress is saved as you go, and the card on the Assignments tab shows you what is left.

What is the difference between a Lesson and an Assignment? An Assignment is the training you were given. It is made of Lessons, and a Lesson is one task you learn and practice.

The app is asking me to sign in again. Is something wrong? No. Sessions end for security. Sign in again with the same credentials.
