Enrolling a Learner is what connects a person to the training you have built, and Skyllful gives you two ways to do it, one where you place each Learner yourself and one where Learners place themselves through a link or QR code. Slug
What does enrolling a Learner actually do?
An Assignment is the container that holds training: the Lessons, the dates, the Learners, and what Skyllful IQ measures. Enrolling is how a person gets into that container. Until someone is enrolled in an Assignment, published Lessons sit there being finished and nobody sees them.
Skyllful gives you two ways to do it, and the choice is really about who does the placing.

You can use both in the same Learning Program, and many programs do: a core group placed by hand, and a link running quietly alongside it for everyone who arrives later.
How do you decide which one to use?
Choose manual enrollment when you know the roster and it will hold still. If you can name the people, placing them yourself is faster than building a link, and you keep exact control over who is in and who is not.
Choose Auto-Enrollment when any of the following is true.
- The audience is large enough that adding people by hand is the slowest part of your launch.
- The roster is still changing, or will keep changing, as with new hires who arrive every week.
- The people are spread across sites and each location knows its own roster better than you do.
- You want to reach people physically rather than by email, with a QR code on a poster, a table, or a shift board.
A single Auto-Enrollment link enrolls an unlimited number of Learners and keeps working until you disable it, so the effort of setting one up is paid once no matter how many people come through it.
What does enrollment not do?
Two things are worth knowing before you start, because both are easy to assume.
Enrollment does not create the people. Learners must already exist in Skyllful before either method can reach them, unless your organization uses Auto-Provisioning with SSO. Add them first through Add a User or Bulk Import and Export Users.
Publishing does not enroll anyone. Publishing a Lesson makes it eligible to be used. A Learner reaches it only when it is published and they are enrolled in an active Assignment that includes it. If Learners tell you they cannot see training you know is finished, enrollment is the first place to look.
FAQ
How do Learners enroll in Skyllful training? Either an administrator adds them to an Assignment, or they enroll themselves through an Auto-Enrollment link or QR code.
Can I use both methods together? Yes. Enroll a core group by hand and leave an Auto-Enrollment link running for everyone who joins afterward.
Does Auto-Enrollment create the Learner accounts? Not through the standard link. Learners must already exist in Skyllful, unless your organization uses Auto-Provisioning with SSO. See Set Up Auto-Enrollment for the one custom exception.
Which method is faster? For a small, known group, adding Learners yourself. For anything larger or still growing, an Auto-Enrollment link, since it is built once and then works without you.
A Learner says they cannot see their training. Where do I start? Check that they are enrolled in an Assignment that is currently active, and that the Lesson inside it is published. Both have to be true.
