Edit an Assignment

Administrators open an existing Assignment from the Assignments card on the Learning Program Overview in Skyllful Studio, change its settings, Lessons, Learners, IQ thresholds, completion windows, or fast forward rules across five tabs, then click Update to save.

How do you open an Assignment for editing?

Go to the Learning Program Overview and find the Assignment in the Assignments card. Each row carries the Assignment name, its dates, and two icons.

Control
Where it takes you
The Assignment name The Assignment screen, open for editing.
The edit icon, a pencil over a square The same Assignment screen. The name and this icon do the same thing.
The chart icon, bars under an upward arrow Skyllful IQ, on the Overview for this Assignment. This one leaves Studio, so use it to look at results rather than to make changes.

Note: The chart icon also reports. It is green when the Assignment is on track and red when it is behind, measured from where Learners have got to against today's date. That comparison only means something when everyone is working to one shared schedule, so the icon stays grey on Assignment types that have no single schedule to be measured against.

What can you change, and where?

The Assignment screen holds the Assignment Settings panel and five tabs. Everything below is editable on an Assignment that already exists.

Area
What you can change there
Assignment Settings panel The thumbnail, Assignment Title, Assignment Short Title, Assignment Types, Availability devices, and the Availability Start Date and Availability End Date.
Lessons tab Which Lessons the Assignment carries, which modes each one offers, and each Lesson's fast forward rule. Add Lessons with the plus (+) icon at the right of the column headings, and take one out with the X at the end of its row.
IQ Settings tab The thresholds that decide when Skyllful IQ highlights this Assignment's data yellow or red. They belong to this Assignment alone. The tab is inactive on a Reference Assignment, which reports on what Learners viewed rather than on pace.
Learners tab Who is in the Assignment. Add people with the plus (+) icon, take someone out with the X at the end of their row, and use the filters to find a person in a long list.
Duration tab Completion windows by job role, tag, or individual Learner. Active only while the Assignment Type is New Hire.
Automations tab The automations that reference this Assignment. The list shows their triggers, webhook, and status, and reads "No automations reference this assignment yet" until one does.

Note: The edit icon on a Learner's row opens that person's full profile for this Learning Program, the same window as Edit User Profile in User Management, including their access, manager, job role, and tags. What you change there applies to them across the whole Learning Program and every Assignment in it, not just the Assignment you opened them from. It stops at the Learning Program boundary: a profile belongs to one Learning Program, so the same person's profile in a different Learning Program is a separate record and is untouched.

How do you save your changes?

Update sits at the bottom right of the Assignment screen, and it stays inactive until something on the screen actually changes. That is your confirmation that Skyllful noticed the edit.

Close at the bottom left leaves without saving, and Skyllful asks first. An Unsaved Changes! window offers Cancel, Don't Save, and Save.

How do you stop Learners from fast forwarding a Video or Talkthrough?

Step
Action
1 Open the Assignment and stay on the Lessons tab.
2 On the Lesson's row, click the gear icon. The Assignment Lesson Settings window opens.
3 Check Disable Fast Forward for Videos and Talkthroughs.
4 Click Update.

Note: This is set one Lesson at a time, inside one Assignment. It is not a Learning Program rule and it does not carry across to another Assignment that uses the same Lesson, so repeat it for every Lesson that needs it. It also covers Talkthroughs, not only Videos, so a Learner cannot skip to the end of either one.

What to weigh before you change the type or the dates

The Assignment Type is not a label. Skyllful IQ reports against the type, so changing it changes which counters and charts this Assignment produces, and it decides whether the Duration tab is available at all. Change it because the Assignment genuinely works differently now, not to rename it.

The Availability Start Date is what a Learner's completion countdown waits for. Moving it moves the countdown for everyone whose window has not opened yet.

FAQ

Why is the Update button greyed out?

Because nothing on the screen has changed yet. Update becomes available the moment you edit a field, add a Lesson, or add a Learner.

Why is the Duration tab greyed out?

Duration belongs to the New Hire type. Campaign, Reference, and JITT Assignments run on the single availability window at the top of the screen. To set completion windows per job role, tag, or person, see Customize Assignment Duration in Studio.

Can I change who is in the Assignment?

Yes, on the Learners tab. Use the plus (+) icon to add people and the X to remove them. Be careful with the edit icon on a row: it opens the person's whole profile for this Learning Program, not their place in this Assignment.

How do I take a Lesson or a Learner out of an Assignment?

Click the X at the end of the row, on the Lessons tab or the Learners tab. It removes that Lesson or that person from this Assignment only. The Lesson stays in the Learning Program, and the Learner keeps their Skyllful account and any other Assignments they are in.

Can I change which modes a Lesson offers after the Assignment is live?

Yes. The mode columns on the Lessons tab show what this Assignment currently offers for each Lesson.

Does turning off fast forward apply everywhere?

No. It is a per Lesson, per Assignment setting. The same Lesson in another Assignment keeps its own rule.

I changed the thumbnail. Will Learners see the new one?

Yes. The thumbnail is what identifies the Assignment in a Learner's list in Skyllful Simulator, which is why it is worth keeping current and distinct from your other Assignments.
