Complete an Assignment in Simulator

Completing Assignments covers the day-to-day of learning in Skyllful Simulator for Learners: working through assigned training, completing time-sensitive Just-In-Time Training (JITT) Assignments, saving training for offline use, and keeping your learning activity up to date.

What are you actually doing?

An Assignment is a piece of training somebody gave you. Inside it are Modules, inside those are Lessons, and each Lesson teaches one task.

Most Lessons offer more than one way to work through that task: watch it, be walked through it, try it yourself, or be checked on it. Those are modes. You finish a Lesson by working the modes it offers, and you finish the Assignment by finishing its Lessons.

You do not have to plan any of this. Skyllful Simulator keeps the count for you and always shows you where to pick up.

Where do you pick up?

Open the Assignments tab and look at the card for the Assignment you are working on. Lessons Remaining and Time Remaining tell you what is left before you open anything.

Inside the Assignment, one Lesson is badged Up Next. That is where you stopped. If you only ever tap the Lesson marked Up Next, you will work through the whole Assignment in the right order without thinking about it.

How do you work through an Assignment?

Step
Action
1 On the Assignments tab, tap the Assignment you want to work on.
2 The Assignment opens as a list of Modules. Each Module heading carries its own Time Remaining and Lessons Remaining, so you can see how much of that Module is left.
3 Find the Lesson badged Up Next and tap it. Lessons are numbered by Module, so 1.4 is the fourth Lesson of the first Module.
4 Read the start screen. It gives you the Lesson name, how long it should take, and what you will be able to do afterwards.
5 If the Lesson offers more than one mode, tap the one you want. The available modes sit under the start card, each with its name written underneath.
6 Tap Begin Learning to start. On a Lesson that is only a video, the button reads Play Video instead.
7 Work through the mode to the end, then come back to the Lesson. A mode you have finished is marked with a green check.
8 Repeat until Lessons Remaining reaches zero.

Note: Nothing here has to happen in one sitting. Your progress is saved as you go, and Up Next moves along with you, so you can put your phone away mid-Assignment and come back to the right place tomorrow.

What are the Lesson cards telling you?

Every Lesson in an Assignment is a card, and the card tells you its state at a glance.

What you see
What it means
Up Next, with the card outlined This is where you left off. Start here.
Time Remaining, with a number of minutes You have not finished this Lesson yet, and this is roughly what is left of it.
Completed, with a date and a green check over the thumbnail You finished this Lesson on that date.

Note: A completed Lesson still opens. Tapping one takes you back to its start screen, where you can run a mode again. Doing that does not undo anything you have already finished.

What are the modes?

A mode is a way of working through the same task. Which ones a Lesson offers is decided by whoever built it, so you will not see all of these in every Lesson.

Mode
What it is like
Video You watch. The video opens full screen with its own play, pause and progress controls.
Talkthrough The Lesson talks you through the task and shows you what happens, without asking you to do it yet.
Walkthrough You do the task, guided, with prompts showing you where to tap next.
Practice You do the task with less help, to see whether it has stuck.
Knowledge Check You do the task on your own, and it is recorded.

The modes usually run in that order, from watching to doing on your own, which is also the order that makes them easiest.

How do you get back out?

At the top right of a Lesson, Close Module takes you out and back to your Assignment. In the full-screen video player, the same control reads Close Mode.

You can leave at any point. You do not need to finish a mode to keep the progress you have already made.

What if an Assignment is time-sensitive?

Some Assignments are Just-In-Time Training, which means they are tied to a deadline rather than to your own pace. A time-sensitive Assignment shows you the time it is due, how long you have left, and a Time Sensitive badge, so the clock is visible before you start rather than after you have missed it.

If you cannot see those details on an Assignment somebody has told you is time-sensitive, your app may be out of date. Update it, then open the Assignment again.

How do you know your work has counted?

Two places tell you.

Inside the Assignment, Lessons Remaining and Time Remaining drop as you go, and finished Lessons pick up their green check and a completed date.

Outside it, History holds the permanent record: every activity you have completed, with the date, how long it took, and which mode it was. Your work also reaches your manager, who sees your progress in Skyllful IQ.

Note: Your activity is recorded when the app can reach Skyllful. If you have been working somewhere without a signal, your most recent Lessons may not appear in History until your device reconnects.

FAQ

Do I have to finish an Assignment in one sitting? No. Progress is saved as you go and Up Next always shows you where to resume.

What does Up Next mean? It marks the Lesson you should do next, which is usually the one after the last one you finished.

Can I do a Lesson again? Yes. Open it from the Assignment and run a mode again. Redoing a Lesson does not remove the completion you already have.

Why does one Lesson have four modes and another only one? Because that is how each Lesson was built. A short update might only need a video, while a task you have to perform accurately gets the full set.

Somebody told me about training I cannot find. Where is it? Either it has not started yet or it has not been published. Neither is something you can fix from the app. Ask your manager.

I finished a Lesson but it still says Time Remaining. Why? You have probably finished one mode and not the others. Open the Lesson and look for the modes without a green check.
