Read the Assignments Dashboard
The Assignments Dashboard in Skyllful Studio puts every Assignment in a Learning Program across the top and every Learner down the side, so Administrators can see at a glance who is in what, who is behind, and who has not been assigned anything yet, and can assign someone straight from their cell.
What is this dashboard for?
Everything else in Assignments looks at one Assignment at a time. This looks at all of them at once, against every Learner in the Learning Program.
That is the view you need for the questions that cross Assignments:
- Who is behind, and by how much?
- Who has not been given anything yet?
- Which Assignment is stalling, and which is nearly finished?
- Is this Learner in the Assignment I think they are in?
What are you looking at?
A grid. Assignments run across the top, Learners run down the side, and each cell is that Learner's standing in that Assignment.
Part |
What it shows |
|---|---|
| Column header | A short code for the Assignment, with a bar above it comparing Total Lessons to Completed Lessons, and a completion percentage. |
| Row header | The Learner's name and their Last Login, which is often the more revealing of the two. |
| Cell | That Learner's progress in that Assignment, or Click to Assign if they are not in it. |
Note: The column header is the Assignment Short Title if the Assignment has one. If it does not, Skyllful builds a code from the initials of the Assignment Title, so "Communications Hub" becomes CH and "Driver DSD Certification Wave 1" becomes DDCW1. This is what the Short Title field on the Assignment is for. In a Learning Program with a dozen Assignments, initials stop being readable quickly, and a short title you chose is easier to scan than one Skyllful guessed at.
Note: A Reference Assignment has no completion to measure, so its column carries no bar and no percentage.
How do you read a cell?
The cell shows |
It means |
|---|---|
| Click to Assign | This Learner is not in this Assignment. |
| A progress figure | How far this Learner has got, shown as a Percent or a Lesson Count depending on the View Progress As setting. |
| Red, with a number of days | This Learner is behind, and by how much. A cell reading "15 Days off Schedule" is the dashboard's whole purpose in one square. |
Note: Off schedule is measured against the Assignment's own thresholds, not a Skyllful default. What counts as behind is set per Assignment on its IQ Settings tab, so two Assignments can flag the same Learner differently on purpose.
What can you do from here?
Control |
What it does |
|---|---|
| Click to Assign | Adds that Learner to that Assignment from the cell, without opening the Assignment. |
| Filter By | Narrows the Learners by Category and Name, or by typing in the Filter box. clear resets it. |
| Advanced Filter | Builds a more specific query when one filter is not enough. |
| View Progress As | Switches every cell between Percent and Lesson Count. |
| Total Lessons / Completed Lessons | The legend for the bar on each column. |
| The columns control | Chooses which columns appear, so a wide program can be cut down to the Assignments you are working on. |
Best practice: Use Click to Assign for a person you missed, not as the way you assign a cohort. Adding people from the Assignment's own Learners tab lets you set what they need in one pass, and on a New Hire or JITT Assignment it is where their dates are set at all.
FAQ
Why is the column header not the Assignment's name?
Columns have to be narrow. Skyllful shows the Assignment Short Title if you set one, and initials of the title if you did not.
Why does one Assignment have no bar?
It is a Reference Assignment. Learners look things up in it rather than completing it, so there is no completion to chart.
What does a red cell mean?
The Learner is behind, and the cell says by how many days. The threshold comes from that Assignment's IQ Settings.
Someone is missing from the grid.
The grid lists Learners in the Learning Program. A person who has not been added to the program at all will not appear, whatever Assignments exist. See Add a User.
Can I see one Learner in detail?
Open the Learner from the dashboard for their progress in that Assignment. For attempts, pace, and everything across Assignments, use Skyllful IQ.
