Approve Lesson Steps Before Publishing
Approval in Skyllful Studio happens one step at a time, and every approval and reversal is recorded in that step's comment thread. r.
What can you approve?
A step. Approval in Skyllful Studio is applied one step at a time, in the Lesson Builder.
There is no single control that approves a whole Lesson, and no way to reverse a whole Lesson's approval in one action. A Lesson is fully approved when every one of its steps has been approved individually, and unwinding that means going back through the steps one at a time.
Best practice: Approve as you review, step by step, rather than reading the whole Lesson and then going back to the top to mark it up. The approval marks are how the next person knows where you stopped.
How do you approve a step?
Step |
Action |
|---|---|
| 1 | Open the Lesson in the Lesson Builder. |
| 2 | Find the step. To the left of the step's card, under the step number, is a short column of three icons. |
| 3 | Click the approval icon, the third one, shaped like a document. |
Once a step is approved, its approval icon carries a green circle with a white check in the lower right corner. That mark is how you tell at a glance which steps have been signed off.
How do you reverse an approval?
Click the same approval icon again. The step returns to unapproved and the green check comes off.
Note: There is no bulk reversal. If a Lesson needs to go back for rework, each step has to be unapproved on its own.
Where is an approval recorded?
In the step's comment thread. Open the step's comment icon, the first icon in the same column, and the thread shows entries reading Approved step and Unapproved step, each with the name of the person and the date and time, sitting alongside the ordinary comments people have left.
One thread therefore holds both halves of the review: what people said about the step, and what was decided about it, in the order it happened.
How do you tell what has been approved?
Where you look |
What it tells you |
|---|---|
| The step's approval icon in the Lesson Builder | Whether that individual step is approved. A green circle with a check means yes. |
| The step's comment thread | Who approved or unapproved it, and when. |
| The Approved But Not Published Lessons counter on the Learning Program Overview | How many Lessons in the Learning Program have been approved but are still waiting to be published. |
Frequently asked questions
Does approving a step publish anything?
No. Approval and publishing are separate. A Lesson can be fully approved and still be unpublished, which is exactly what the Approved But Not Published Lessons counter is counting.
Does approving a step lock it?
No. Approval is a review mark, not a lock. A step can still be edited after it is approved, so re-check anything that changed after sign-off.
Can you approve a Lesson without going step by step?
No. There is no Lesson-level approval control.
Who should be approving?
Whoever owns sign-off on your team. Subject matter experts commonly approve the steps that carry business rules and data, while an instructional designer or reviewer approves the rest.
