Adding Closed Captions to Videos

Closed captions make Skyllful Lesson videos accessible, and this article shows Content Developers how to upload WebVTT or SRT caption files to a video from the Video Library or the Lesson Builder.

Why add closed captions?

  • Captions make videos accessible to Learners who are deaf or hard of hearing.
  • Captions help comprehension in noisy work areas where sound is hard to hear.
  • Captions support accessibility standards such as ADA.

What caption file formats does Skyllful support?

  • WebVTT files (.vtt).
  • SRT files (.srt).

How do you add captions from the Video Library?

Step Action
1 Open the Video Library in the Learning Program.
2 Find the video. A Missing Captions badge shows which videos still need captions.
3 Open the video's overflow menu (the three dots on the video card).
4 Select the option to add or upload captions.
5 Choose the .vtt or .srt caption file.
6 Select the caption language, then save.

How do you add captions from the Lesson Builder?

Step Action
1 Open the Lesson in the Lesson Builder.
2 Open the video step or the Video mode for the Lesson.
3 Upload the caption file for the video.

What happens if a video has no captions?

The video shows a Missing Captions badge for each language that has no caption file. Add a caption file for each language you support.

Yes. Add a separate caption file for each language, and select the matching language when you upload.

Where can you see which videos need captions?

In the Video Library. Any video without captions shows a Missing Captions badge.
