Add a Lesson to an Assignment from Lesson Builder

Content Developers put a finished Lesson into one or more Assignments without leaving Skyllful Lesson Builder by clicking Distribute, which opens a list of every Assignment in the Learning Program with its type, dates, Lesson count and Learner count, and lets them choose the Lesson modes each Assignment offers.

Why distribute from Lesson Builder?

A Lesson does not reach anyone on its own. It reaches Learners through an Assignment, and the moment you are most likely to know which Assignments a Lesson belongs in is the moment you finish building it.

Distribute is that shortcut. It puts the Lesson into one or more Assignments from inside Lesson Builder, so you do not have to leave the Lesson, open the Learning Program, and add it from each Assignment in turn. It is the same job done from the other end.

Where is Distribute?

At the bottom right of Lesson Builder, in the bar that also holds Close, Preview, AI Assistant, Publish Version and Update. Beside it, Skyllful prints the published version and how many Assignments the Lesson is already in.

Clicking it opens Distribution Options for Lesson.

What does the Distribution Options window show?

Every Assignment in the Learning Program, one per row, with what you need to choose between them.

Column
What it tells you
SELECT The circle you click to choose this Assignment for the Lesson.
TYPE New Hire, Campaign, Reference, or JITT.
AVAILABILITY The Assignment's start and end dates. An end date that has already passed is printed in red.
#LESSONS How many Lessons the Assignment already carries.
#LEARNERS How many Learners are in it.
V, TT, WT, PR, KC The Lesson modes this Assignment will offer for this Lesson: Video, Talkthrough, Walkthrough, Practice, Knowledge Check.

The row also carries an edit pencil, which opens that Assignment without leaving the window, and the Skyllful IQ chart icon, which opens its analytics.

Note: The mode boxes belong to the row, not to the window. The same Lesson can run as Walkthrough and Practice in one Assignment and as Video alone in another, which is how one piece of content serves a new hire cohort and a refresher campaign differently.

Note: Read the red dates before you choose. An Assignment whose availability has ended will take the Lesson without complaint, and no Learner will ever see it there.

How do you add the Lesson to an Assignment?

Step
Action
1 In Lesson Builder, click Distribute at the bottom right.
2 Find the Assignment you want. Type into Filter By Assignment Title if the list is long.
3 Click the circle in the SELECT column for that Assignment. Choose as many Assignments as the Lesson belongs in, or click Select All.
4 On each chosen row, set the Lesson modes that Assignment should offer: V, TT, WT, PR, KC.
5 Click Update.

Note: Close leaves the window without changing anything. Nothing is committed until you click Update.

Can you create an Assignment from here?

Yes. The plus (+) icon at the top right of the column headings creates a new Assignment, so a Lesson that has nowhere to go yet does not send you back to the Learning Program to build one first.

The new Assignment still needs what any Assignment needs: a title, a type, and its availability dates. See Create an Assignment.

FAQ

Which modes can I choose?

All five: Video, Talkthrough, Walkthrough, Practice and Knowledge Check, shown as V, TT, WT, PR and KC.

Can one Lesson go into several Assignments?

Yes. Choose as many rows as you need before clicking Update, or use Select All.

Can I give the same Lesson different modes in different Assignments?

Yes. The mode boxes sit on each Assignment's own row.

Why is an Assignment's end date red?

Because it has already passed. The Assignment is no longer running, so a Lesson added there reaches nobody until its dates change.

Can I edit the Assignment without leaving Lesson Builder?

Yes. The pencil on the row opens it, and the chart icon beside it opens the Assignment in Skyllful IQ.

Does adding a Lesson here publish it?

No. Distributing decides which Assignments carry the Lesson. A Learner reaches it only once the Lesson is published and its Assignment is running.
